Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Scott County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained so our team can respond. We keep that communication within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Our servers automatically receive basic technical details when a visitor loads a page:

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Scott County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official routes to records held by the Scott County Sheriff's Office, local courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a criminal-history file about someone else.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes that appear on some pages. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules govern information submitted to them. We do not control those practices. Read the provider's policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Scott County offices, Virginia court portals, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Review it before providing personal information.

The Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Code of Virginia § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to qualifying public records held by government bodies. Dissemination of state criminal-history information is separately limited by Code of Virginia § 19.2-389. Those public-record laws do not make this private site a government custodian. - Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Seek deletion where applicable law permits it
