Why We Built This Site
Virginia records do not sit in one all-purpose database. Scott County court clerks preserve charges, docket events, dispositions, and sentencing orders. The Scott County Sheriff's Office is the local source for records it creates, while current regional-jail custody information follows the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority channel. The Virginia Department of State Police, Criminal Justice Information Services Division, maintains the Central Criminal Records Exchange for statewide criminal-history checks. We brought the verified request routes, official portals, fees, and office details together because the right starting point depends on the record.
What You Will Find Here
- Official check steps: how Virginia name-based and fingerprint record checks work through the Central Criminal Records Exchange
- Scott County contacts: how to reach the sheriff, Circuit Court Clerk, and General District Court
- Record guides: how court files, arrest records, jail information, and registry entries are found and read
- Record-clearing context: where Scott County expungement petitions are filed and how sealing differs under Virginia law
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not part of Scott County, the Commonwealth of Virginia, or any court or law-enforcement agency. Those boundaries matter:
- We cannot run an official background check or pull a criminal record for anyone
- We cannot file expungement petitions, records requests, or any other paperwork on your behalf
- We cannot issue certified copies of any criminal record, court document, or rap sheet
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific charge or case applies to you
- We cannot promise that every published address, fee, phone number, or procedure remains current
An official copy must come from the office that holds it, such as the sheriff, a court clerk, or the Virginia Department of State Police.
Search Partners
Outside providers power some search boxes shown on the site. Each provider controls its own service, prices, and results. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may produce a referral fee that supports free access to this reference material. We do not set the provider's charges, maintain its records, or decide which results it returns.
